Washington Presbyterian Church is celebrating its 175th anniversary on Sunday with a coffee hour at 9 a.m. and a special service at 10 a.m. The congregation first gathered on Nov. 16, 1834, in a general store in Washington. The current building is the second it built.

Hines Primary School assistant principal Carolyn Nunn watches one of 18 boys who had their heads shaved Monday in a show of support for Nunn, who has breast cancer. The fundraising effort started with fourth-grader Elliott Stagg, seated behind Nunn, who set with a goal of $250 reached, he would shave his head. His teacher, George Lucero, vowed to shave his as well if donations reached $500. When $1400 was raised, the pair sat for the cut, during which 17 more boys stepped forward to have their heads shaved as a demonstration of support for Nunn.
